    County Executive Pat Ryan Announces Campaign to Remind Residents about School Bus Safety  Kingston, N.Y. – As students around Ulster County head back to school this week, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan today unveiled a new public awareness campaign aimed at reminding motorists, parents and students that school is open and to exercise caution and follow the rules for school bus safety. UCAT buses around Ulster County will feature the new campaign.

  • Ulster County Bridge Dedication in the Memory of Sheriff Michael LaPaglia

    PHOENICIA, N.Y. – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, joined by members of the Ulster County Legislature and Shandaken town officials, announced the dedication of the Bridge Street Bridge in Phoenicia as the “Sheriff Michael LaPaglia Memorial Bridge” in honor of the former Ulster County Sheriff. The bridge, which crosses the Esopus Creek on County Route 40, is one of only two access routes to the Shandaken hamlet of Phoenicia.

    TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. –  Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, members of the Ulster County Legislature, members of organized labor, and representatives of the volunteer firefighter community today broke ground on the new Public Safety Training Center on Ulster Landing Road in the Town of Ulster. This ground breaking signifies the start of construction of the new three-story concrete building that will house the state-of-the-art burn facility.

    KINGSTON, N.Y. – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan signed into law a historic bill creating term limits for Ulster County elected officials. Under the new law, County Legislators’ can serve for no more than six full terms and no person shall serve as County Executive or Comptroller for more than three full terms.

    “On behalf of the county we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our neighbor who passed away. Although exceedingly rare, the Powassan virus and other tick-borne diseases are a serious threat and I encourage everyone to be extra vigilant when taking part in outdoor activities. I have directed our Health Commissioner and County departments to take every step necessary to help prevent the spread of tick-borne diseases including the implementation of an expanded public awareness campaign.” ###
  • Ulster County Health Department Confirms Powassan Virus Fatality

    Kingston, N.Y. – The Ulster County Department of Health was notified today that an Ulster County resident passed away from the Powassan virus, a rare and often serious disease spread by infected ticks. This is the first known case of an individual diagnosed with the Powassan virus in New York State this year. The resident, who lives in Gardiner, had additional underlying health conditions and passed away earlier this week.
  • Ulster County Maintains Strong Financial Standing with ‘AA’ Bonding Rating

    KINGSTON, N.Y. – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced today that the County has maintained its strong ‘AA’ overall credit rating in the latest S&P Global Ratings report. The County’s rating is a result of strong, financial management, budgetary performance, budgetary flexibility, liquidity, and debt and contingent liability position. The County was also noted for its economic growth.
